Robert Bruce Hodges, M.D. | Board Certified and Recertified Ophthalmic Surgeon

 

Comprehensive Ophthalmology and Cataract Surgery

 

Dr. Hodges is a native of Rocky Mount, Virginia where he spent his entire childhood.  He graduated from Franklin County High School and was his class Valedictorian.  From there, he attended the University of Virginia and received a B.A. in Chemistry with High Distinction.  He also received accolades in achieving membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Epsilon Delta (Premedical Honor Society).  His medical education was received at the Medical College of Virginia with an internship in Internal Medicine at the Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati and his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati.  He then moved to the Frederick area and started his private practice career and maintained an academic position as a teaching attending physician at the Washington Hospital Center's residency clinic.  He opened his own practice in 1997 and has been practicing in Frederick full-time since then.  He has been a staff member at Frederick Memorial Hospital since 1993 and has served in numerous leadership roles including several committee positions, Vice Chief and Chief of Surgery, and Chief of Ophthalmology from 2001-2014.  Dr. Hodges performs his surgeries at the Frederick Surgery Center.  Dr. Hodges was initially board certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology in 1995 and has been board recertified in 2005 and 2015.

In his other life, Dr. Hodges is an avid golfer, experienced handyman, and amateur chef.  He lives in Walkersville with his wife, Christine, whom he had the good fortune of marrying while in college.  They are the proud parents of three grown daughters all of whom attended Walkersville schools. Christine and Dr. Hodges have survived three weddings to be able to add wonderful sons-in-law to their family. They have had the honor of becoming grandparents to five energetic grandsons.
